Top Competencies/Learning Outcomes

The Fundamentals of Critical Care microcredential will provide the learner with the knowledge and skill of basic critical care nursing. Students will be provided with hands-on technical nursing skills in key procedures such as airway and cardiac monitoring, maintaining a central line, understanding the function of an A -line, monitoring a patient’s neurological status, facilitating ventilator support, administering critical care medications and more. This program prepares nursing students to work in healthcare settings for a variety of patient populations and provides new knowledge and/or content refresher for the Registered Nurse (RN).

Outcomes:

  • The learner will demonstrate knowledge and psychomotor skill competency for airway management.
  • The learner will demonstrate knowledge and psychomotor skill competency of ventilator management including understanding the indication for use, settings, alarms and prevention of ventilator related complications.
  • The learner will demonstrate psychomotor skill competency of cardiac monitoring, defibrillation and pacing cardioversion.
  • The learner will demonstrate knowledge and psychomotor skill competency of central line dressing change and demonstrate understanding of an A-line.
  • The learner will demonstrate understanding the indication for use, dosing and adverse effects of commonly prescribed critical care medications.
